Welcome to English 1 Class!
In this class we will practice and strengthen your writing skills in a variety of forms, explore literature, and read together, all in an effort to help you better learn how to communicate with others, and understand others when they communicate with you.
In short, this class will help you learn about Human communication and relationships,
and I hope to help you learn the answer to the question,
"Why does Reading and Writing matter to me?"
In the space below you will find links to descriptions of each unit we will cover,
course content, and links to project resources, general tools and resource links,
and other valuable things for this course.

The Year-Long Planner is a document I created to help me organize the class in broad strokes for the entire year. Feel free to look it over, but I want to emphasize that I created it for my personal planning use, so you may not find it user friendly, and it is very much a work-in-progress, so not everything we will do is on there yet, by a long shot. The document will also be full of links that will match up with the links you can find below.

My English class is divided into three main "pillars." These are "Writing," "Independent Reading," and "Literature."
The basic assignments in each category are balanced against the others equally,
but the Writing category has writing projects, and the Literature category
has tests which do not have an equal in independent reading.

UNITSI have separated the Independent Reading category into one year-long unit because it has distinct learning outcomes that does not change from part to part, and a lot of it is student-paced and driven by student choice.
Units are not divided by Quarter because units in this class regularly cross quarters. They will instead be divided into five "Parts."Part 1Unit 0 is a mini-unit covering the first week of school for all of my classes. It is the same for every course, and its purpose is to be a tutorial for all of the students to help them orient themselves to me, my classes, my materials and my expectations.

WEEKLY PLANNERSWeekly Planners, like all of the documents you can access on this page, were made by me for my planning processes, and so are not meant to be strictly user-friendly. However, you might still find them useful to keep track of what your student will be doing on a week-by-week basis, so I have provided links below.
Also, each Weekly Planner has information for all classes that week. QUARTER 1:
